Yup, used to work, I avoided a lot of fall damage by turning into a snowman in combat/flight etc, like jumping down into Un'Goro or the when Garr's adds blow up in Molten Core. I forget when they fixed it, but they changed the snowman into a "non-combat, channeling cast" instead of an "anytime instant cast".
